About GIGIPAYNE Studio
Gigi Payne, Founder and Lead Instructor
GIGIPAYNE Studio is led by Gigi Payne, a textile designer and educator in Bangkok. She studied fashion design at CIDI Chanapatana International Design Institute, and since 2026 has taught textile design and craft techniques there.
Alongside her formal training, Gigi learned traditional textile crafts directly from working craftspeople, in Thailand and abroad. She founded GIGIPAYNE in 2019 to share those techniques beyond the classroom, with anyone who wants to learn them properly.
From CIDI Graduate to CIDI Instructor
I didn't start in art. I worked in business administration and leadership coaching, with a background in IO psychology. Then I applied to fashion school at CIDI, and textiles took over.
Margiela, Dries Van Noten, and Dior were the designers I studied most. What stayed with me was how often they reached back to old techniques: hand dyeing, resist work, surface marks that most of the modern world forgot. So I went looking for the people who still do it, and I learned from them directly.
In 2026 I went back to CIDI, this time on the other side of the table.
Our Teaching Method
I'm always learning and experimenting. It's how I stay honest about the work, and it's what I bring to every class, at the studio and at CIDI.
I want the studio to feel comfortable, whether you've done this kind of thing before or not. For me, art is genuinely therapeutic. It can turn an ordinary afternoon into something exciting, calm you down, give you a quiet confidence, and teach you something real about the world around you.
Every workshop is built with that in mind, and with a reminder for all of us to slow down and appreciate what's around us: nature, the people we care about, the things we can make with our hands.
We keep things personal.
The Sathorn Studio
Our studio is on Rama IV Road in Sathorn, next to One Bangkok. We teach in English and Thai.
Much of what you work with here is made by small local communities around Thailand, so your workshop supports them too.
