Feb 2026. I spent 2 delightful days with Gigi and Emma taking 4 workshops ( Cyano, Batik, Eco printing, and Natural Dyes). Not only did I learn incredible techniques, Gigi made it easy to understand, accessible, fun and relevant. The pace was kind, and great for meaningful conversations and sharing. Both Gigi and Emma were incredibly kind, and helpful. The classes were catered to me, and the knowledge of textiles I shared with Gigi before hand, which was so helpful and targeted. The handwoven material used to help local farmers is so meaningful. I applaud Gigi Payne for allowing those century-old traditions to live on. Her English is very good, so classes are accessible to many. AC available. Easy access by subway or city buses too. She also has some beautiful items for sale. I stepped into a creative world that gave me a magical feeling! I love it! Thanks Gigi and Emma! I would love to come back again!

On a recent trip to visit my sister in Bangkok, we spent two days with Gigi - one day for eco printing and one for batik. She is incredibly knowledgable, personable, and fun. I learned so much and just scratched the smallest surface of what Gigi knows. She is an expert who approaches her art with scientific precision, which means she sent me home with beautiful works of art. She loves what she does, and it shows. I am so happy my sister and I shared our time together in Gigi's studio. I will go back.

Natural dyes come from plants — roots, bark, flowers, leaves. You simmer them, add mordants to bind the color, and dip cotton into the bath. The same plant can give you a soft yellow or a deep rust depending on how you prepare the fiber. It's practical chemistry with a long history, and the foundation of every natural textile technique taught at GIGIPAYNE.

In this session at GIGIPAYNE Studio in Bangkok, you work through the full process from raw plant material to finished swatch. You prepare the cotton, mix mordants, and test how each variable shifts the result. Change the mordant, change the color. Change the fiber prep, change how deeply the dye sets. You run small experiments side by side and see the logic behind what work.

The workshop suits anyone working with textiles — fashion students, designers exploring sustainable materials, artists who want real control over color. It's calm, focused work. You spend the afternoon learning how to read a dye bath.

You leave with a set of naturally dyed cotton samples — your own color reference palette, built from plants you handled yourself, and the knowledge to build on it at home.

Your Creative Project

During the workshop you will create a collection of naturally dyed fabric pieces. These samples can later be used as color references for textile, fashion, or design projects.
